Free Mode

The Free Project mode is a particular way to use the OpticalRevEng Dental software if you need to acquire some data that do not fit in any of the Structed Projects supported.
You can use the free mode to play with the scan system, to make experiments or if you need to scan only one object.
In free mode there is no project tree, no automatic alignment and no Step-By-Step Wizard. You can still acquire data, align two objects togheter, generate mesh and edit all the information.

The project logic is completely in your hands. You are responsable to correcty choose a reference item, align all the object, choose the best scan and mesh strategy for all the project data.

Some tools works differently in Free Mode because the project is missong some information.

Acquisition

In free mode the software have no idea what kind of object you're going to acquire, and what name to give.
When you click the Acquisition button an extra dialog will ask you this two required informations.

Alignment

In free mode the software have no way to identify the reference item automatically. To align two objects you need to use the drag and drop function as explained in the Project Tree page

Mesh Generation

When you select one or more acquisition and click the Generate Mesh button the software have no idea what mesh generation strategy to use.
An extra dialog will ask you what mesh generation strategy you want to use and if you want to aggregate the acquisition.

If aggregate is checked the software will create only one mesh with all the selected acquisitions.
If aggregate is not checked every acquisition will be converted in a separate mesh.

Implant Alignment

When you align an implant marker to the implant library the software have no idea in wich tooth position this implant marker is.
You have to select the correct implant position or the identification will not be exported correctly

Exocad Export

In a free project the software have no idea how to export the data to exocad.
If you click the Export To Cad button a wizard will start. The first page will ask you:

  • In wich folder you want to export the data
  • If you have only one model (with or without a bite) or if you have acquired two stone models

Then, after you click next you'll have to tell the software every mesh what role have in the project. For every jaw you need to identify:

  • Master Meshes : All the meshes that are part of the stone model: Healthy parts, stumps, pontic parts
  • Gingiva Meshes : Mesh of the separate gingiva
  • Markers : Meshes of the implant markers
  • Pre-Op or Waxup : Mesh of the Provisional Model or a Waxup. You need to select what kind of element.

When all the mehes are identified you can click Export to save the file on disk
